Welcome to Acts of Balance

About Acts of Balance Executive Coaching

For more than 25 years, before becoming a coach and founding Acts of Balance Executive Coaching, I was a PR and marketing professional, serving prominent clients in broadcasting, publishing and the Broadway theatre. Drawn to the field by the prospect of using my creative talents to promote public appreciation of eminently worthwhile projects and performers, I was more than pleased with the results. Being able to contribute to the success and popularity of such undertakings as the Harry Potter books and Emmy Award-winning television presentations, I was fulfilled beyond expectation and rewarded on so many levels.

As my creative juices flowed, my work ethic thrived and my enthusiasm reached new heights, the challenge was to achieve my professional goals while maintaining a balanced perspective – and a balanced life.

Not that I didn’t experience down-times — when too much was expected or demanded, when the workload seemed insurmountable, when clients or bosses didn’t “get” what I was proposing (or when client and I were out of sync).

But, even in the craziest of times, I regained my balance, finding ways to regularly put my feet back on firm ground, rejuvenate my creative energy and drive, and overcome the challenges of the day, months and years. And so can you…

Because, as difficult as that seems, it can be done. I know from my own experience that it can, and I can show you how…

Let’s start here… Which of these reminds you of you? (a) a PR professional (or any creative professional) who isn’t satisfied with his or her career, (b) a PR executive or any leader who needs to increase the team’s performance, engagement and results (and who wants to have an easier time leading it), or (c) the owner of the PR firm  or other entrepreneurial endeavor who is concerned about where the next client, if any, will come from, and how to differentiate and distinguish his or her firm from others in the market…

Because all three want to maintain or regain an edge, enjoy more success and maintain greater balance, each one can profit from the services of an executive coach. Undoubtedly, so can you.

If you’re in an environment where the prevailing philosophy is “What have you done for me lately?” it’s time to ask ,”What have you done for yourself lately?’ Let Acts Of Balance  Executive Coaching help you rediscover YOUR way.

Why Balance Matters

Balance is about how you live your life and manage your business and employees, how in touch you are with your values and how you are walking the talk. When your life or business is out of balance, nothing feels right – you’re easily frustrated, you can’t take your mind off the seemingly constant barrage of challenges, you’re drained because you’re spending only a fraction or your time doing the creative or relationship work that you really enjoy… Ultimately, you feel like there’s got to be a better way.

Finding the right balance in your body, your mind, your life and your business will help you clarify your goals and propel you toward them. Finding this balance will always give you the ability to find your center – that place in your mind that is amazingly calm, cool and collected and can penetrate all the distractions. You will then know how it all works together to bring you the results you want. This balance will lead to lasting success in your journey to improved health, spirit and well-being. Balance enhances leadership in one’s field.

When you find your point of balance, when you are centered, you can not be knocked down. When life and work are balanced (when you are centered) you act from a position of strength, judgement and sensitivity — and you can withstand challenges and setbacks withou being sent off course. When you find your center, you have confidence: leadership naturally evolves. When you are centered, you act with confidence – which enhances your natural leadership strengths.

My clients tell me that they like the way that I balance fun with getting the job done… that I am business-minded, but foster the spirit of creativity and play in my coaching. I don’t take it all too seriously, nor should you. That’s a gift I try to share. Balance to me is about compromise and grace, engaged effort and enduring humor, a clear view and a childlike appetite to learn and enjoy the process.

For the PR people I coach (I’ve walked in their shoes!), it is about helping them to put forth balanced argument, balancing their stories, balancing the demands that face them throughout the day, and balancing management, leadership and finding time to pitch stories. I know what it’s like to be out of balance – having had jobs that have completely consumed me, working the 24/7 news cycles. “It’s PR, not ER,” I would protest. Now I strive for balance every day. Balance for me means knowing that I have choices, and choosing to honor the different parts of who I am consciously and at all times. It’s this balance that has lead me to the success I really wanted.

I help each individual I coach to find that inner core of strength and balance in order to more effectively seize the opportunities that are available to them.

My company is called “Acts of Balance.” I invite you to explore with me what acts you are undertaking each day, how authentic you are being, and where your balance lies.
